Another Big Change At CSK Ahead Of IPL 2027, Long-Time Batting Coach Departs

Major changes are taking place at Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Former India pacer Zaheer Khan being appointed as head coach appears to be only the first step in a massive restructuring of the franchise's support staff. Now, another big move has been made by CSK, as they have reportedly parted ways with batting coach Michael Hussey. The Australian has won two Indian Premier League (IPL) titles as a player and three more as a coach with CSK, but their long association has seemingly come to an end.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Hussey has been formally informed of the decision by the CSK management. However, it is possible that Hussey ends up in the support staff of another franchise for IPL 2027.

As per the report, Hussey has been in talks with a few teams and could end up in another dugout in the upcoming IPL season.

Hussey's departure adds to the changes being made in the coaching staff by CSK ahead of IPL 2027. The team previously parted ways with Stephen Fleming, who was head coach for 18 years, as well as bowling coach Eric Simons. It also appears that fielding coach James Foster's future at the franchise is also not guaranteed.

Along with Zaheer's appointment as head coach, former CSK pacer Mohit Sharma has been named the team's bowling coach going forward. It will be interesting to see who replaces Hussey as batting coach.

A key detail to note is that MS Dhoni, CSK's legendary captain and stalwart, is reportedly playing a crucial role in the coaching changes at the franchise.

Coming back to Hussey, his exit marks the end of an association with CSK that has lasted for more than 15 years as player and coach. The Australian left-hander was a critical cog of the team's batting in the early years of the IPL, notably amassing a 733 runs in IPL 2013.
